N.Z.R.R (New Zealand Rough Riders), sweetheart brooch, South Africa gold half pond 1897, ring top suspension, with bronze suspension pin-back bar with hand engraved gold end pieces, reverse inscribed 'J.S.B. to C.S.'. Very fine.

J.S.B. said to be James Stephen Buzan, farm hand, age 22 of Waitaki, Otago served in the Boer War with New Zealand Mounted Rifles. He qualified for the Queen's South Africa Medal 1899 with four clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal and South Africa 1902.
