CARROLLO MEDAL, 1886, hand engraved in silver (33x44mm), no maker, ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'Tug Of War/won by/F.K.Finlay'. Nearly very fine and rare.
Professor Carrollo held his Annual Gymnastic Carnival and presentation of prizes on the night of 13 September 1886 at Abbott's Opera House in Auckland. The tug-of-war final between Waitemata Whaleboat Crew and Auckland Navals was won by the Navals of which F.K.Finlay was one of its six members. The medals for the tug-of-war were pinned on the breasts of the Auckland Naval team by his Worship the Mayor Mr. W.R.Waddel amidst loud cheers from the audience.
