GENT'S HUNTER POCKET WATCH, in 18ct gold (tot wt 99.95g), by Rotherhams, white dial with black Roman numerals, black hands and a subsidiary seconds dial with Arabic numerals and gold hand, plain case marked JR (John Rotherham & Sons), works cover inscribed 'Presented to/S.B.Corrigan Esq/By His/Friends Of The/Waimate Plains/On The/Occasion of his leaving the Colony/7.2.07'. Appears to be in working order, small crack on dial and a mark near second hand fitting, dent and hairlines on casing, otherwise very fine.
A banquet was held at Manaia to farewell Mr S.D.Corrigan who was one half of the local auctioneering firm of Steuart & Corrigan which was closing down. The firm had been very important to the dairying industry but Mr Corrigan was departing from the colony. At the banquet attended by 50 or 60 people he was widely praised and there was great regret that he was leaving.^^With research.
