TOBACCO BOX, in sterling silver (55x86mm), hallmarked for Birmingham 1903 by maker JW (John Edward Wilmot), with hinged lid at back, front inscribed 'WJ', back intricately engraved decorated and in the centre of the hinged lid is inscribed 'Wm. Johnston Esq./From/Nelson/Law Society/13.6.16'. Very fine.

This presentation was made to Mr William Johnston, formerly District Land Registrar at Nelson, by the Nelson Law Society on his appointment as District Land Registrar at Napier in place of Mr F.L.Aspinall, deceased. Prior to leaving Nelson, Mr Johnston was also entertained at a farewell gathering by members of the Nelson Club at which he was a eulogised as a clubman and public official.
