EDWARD THE MARTYR, (975-978), silver penny, Canterbury Mint, moneyer Aethelstan, (1.36 g), obv. diademed bust left, around EADPEARD REX ANGLORX, rev. small cross pattee with traces of beading to upper left of cross near inner circle, around + AEDELSTAN MO CAENT, (S.1142, North 763, BMC 4). Toned, extremely fine with light porosity, possibly overstruck on an earlier penny, extremely rare.
