SICULO-PUNIC, mint of the camp, (c.300-290 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.73 g), obv. head of young Melqart or Herakles wearing lion skin to right with mane in long vertical tuffs, rev. horse's head to left, palm tree behind, barley ear before, Punic legend 'MHMHNT' below, border of dots, (S.6436, SNG Lloyd 1654 [same dies], Jenkins SNR 57, [Series 5a] 288 [same dies, O92/R236]). Attractive dark tone, good very fine/ nearly extremely fine and very rare variant.
Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 103, lot 3458. Previously Alan Jordan Collection and purchased from Noble Numismatics Sale 64 (lot 2438) the Dr. Stephen Mulligan Collection acquired from Munzen & Medaillen Sale 43, 12th - 13th November 1990 (lot 27 and realised 2310 SFr.) and Italo Vecchi London, Sale 16, 9th October 1999 (lot 89).
