SEXTUS POMPEY, (42-40 B.C.), silver denarius, Sicilian mint, (3.926 grams), obv. diademed head of Neptune to right, trident before, MAG PIVS IMP ITER around, rev. naval trophey, around PRAEF CL[AS ET ORAE MARIT] EX S.C., (S.1391 [£350 VF], Cr.511/2c, Syd.1347, C. Sextus Pompey 2d [£200]). Slightly off centred on the reverse, otherwise nearly very fine/very fine and rare.
Struck to commemorate the naval successes and disaster that befell the enemy.
