MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.20 grams), Amphipolis mint, issued 323-320 B.C., under Philip III, obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, monogram of WTO to left, to right **ALEXANDROU, to right **BASILEUS*, (cf.S.6713, Price 120, BMC 120a-d, M.863, Hyla Troxell (Num. Studies ANS 21) Group I, Series I2). Delightful grey tone, extremely fine and rare in this condition.
