IONIA, Ephesus, (390-330 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (13.725 grams), obv. bee with straight wings dividing E - **F, rev. forepart of kneeling stag to right, looking back, palm tree behind, to right magistrate's name **INOSTRATOS* (Inostratos), (cf.S.4373, cf.BMC 30-52, SNG Cop.215-239, Head p.35 [not noted for this Magistrate). Some edge corrosion and tooling on the obverse, otherwise nearly extremely/good very fine, important as a new unpublished magistrate.
Ex Spink America, Sale March 7, 1995 (lot 42 illustrated). The issue with curved wings is much rarer than the straight wing issue. BMC attributes this straight wing type as later than the curved wing and places a date of post 387 B.C. Ephesus used the Rhodian standard, during the fourth century B.C. This magistrate joins a group of new unpublished magistrates mot previously recorded by Head or Munsterberg.
