ABORIGINAL GORGET, King plate or breast plate, in brass (185mm x 125mm) c.1860's, through which a machine made metal link chain is attached crescentric, flat vertical plane, a hole at each apex, left apex engraved with two emus one facing out, the other facing in, right apex engraved with a kangaroo facing in, inscription reads 'Watchy Cann / King of the Kulkyne / Blacks', inscription surrounded with a scroll. Good fine.
Kulkyne, Parish Co of Karkarooc in 1847, north of Crawfords Station by the Murray River, Kulkyne (Aboriginal name for wood) is also a tribal name of the group inhabiting the Lower Murray River, Victoria.
