L. MANLIUS TORQUATUS, (c.82 B.C.), silver denarius, mint moving with Sulla, (3.726 grams), obv. Roma helmeted head to right, L. MANLI before, PRO Q behind, rev. Sulla in walking quadriga to right, crowned by Victory above, [L.SV]LLA IMP in exergue, (S.286 [£60 VF], Cr.367/5, Syd.757a, B.Manlia 5). Traces of blue and red tone, good very fine/very fine, very scarce.

Ex Hans Schulman, New York, February 14, 1958 (lot 2110). Lucius Torguatus was proquaestor to Sulla during the Mithradatic war and this type represents a triumph granted to great imperator.
