WILLIAM I, the Conqueror, (1066-1087), silver penny, PAXS type, Salisbury Mint, (1.37 g), obv. bust facing crowned, sceptre to right, +PILLLLEM REX around, rev. cross pattee in each angle an annulet containing the word PAXS, OSBERN ON SERB around, (S.1257; BMC type 8, No.897). Attractively toned and clearly struck, nearly extremely fine.

Ex Mark E. Freehill Collection, and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 99 (lot 2327), The Tom May Collection.
