GORDIAN III, issued as Caesar, under Balbinus and Pupienus, (A.D. April-July 238), AE sestertius, Rome mint, (20.47 g), obv. bare headed and draped bust of Gordian to right, around M ANT GORDIANVS CAES, rev. around PIETAS AVGG, SC in exergue, lituus, knife, paterea, jug, simpulum and sprinkler (emblems of priestly colleges), (S.8559, RIC 3 [p.177], BMC 64-66, C.183). Deep chocolate patina, good very fine and very rare.
